The video above is one of several tutorials I have at YouTube. They are free to watch here or there. This video shows how to "fake" a bit of piano playing ability when you are actually just a beginner. Playing piano chords is the easiest way to appear to be a piano pro without spending many years learning how to read music and practice tedious fingering exercises. I have always enjoyed the chord playing style of piano with singers who accompany themselves at the keyboard more than the piano players who are part of a large ensemble. When the singer is in the spotlight and he plays the piano chords and rhythm while he or she is performing I become very impressed with the show. Part of entertaining is making sure your audience is having fun. That is what this lesson is about. To appear like a fun loving individual it is better to be a bit flamboyant at parties. A party can be a memorable event if the musician/singer can get everyone involved in the music. Playing piano chords is impressive by itself, but adding a keyboard flourish by letting one finger start with a high C note and rapidly slide down the keyboard to a C note a couple of octaves lower, ending with a C chord is a wake up call for those attending the party. It is a way to get things started that is bigger and bolder than just setting down and starting a song slowly. This video shows the exact way to do that plus it is an introducion to two Christmas favorites. You will learn the chord changes for Jolly Old Saint Nicholas and Jingle Bells. There are many other holiday songs to learn but this will get things started. The chord changes for many songs can be found by searching the internet for the song title and the words piano chords. Have fun at the party. |
